TrailBlazer administers the Medicare program under contracting arrangements with CMS. Other clients include select agencies and firms in the health care program administration sector.
As a Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC), Part A intermediary and Part B carrier, TrailBlazer administers some aspect of the Medicare program for beneficiaries and providers in virtually every state.
TrailBlazer is the Part A and Part B Jurisdiction 4 MAC for:
- Colorado.
- New Mexico.
- Oklahoma.
- Texas.
- Indian Health Service.
As a Fiscal Intermediary (FI), TrailBlazer is the:
- National Part A Intermediary for the Veterans Affairs (VA) claims recovery project.
- National FI for many dialysis and skilled nursing facility chains.
- Regional processor for freestanding rural health clinics for central United States.
- Regional FI for End Stage Renal Disease claims for Arkansas, Colorado, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
As a carrier, TrailBlazer is the:
- Part B carrier for Virginia.
- National Part B carrier for mass billers of influenza/pneumococcal vaccine.
- National Part B carrier for the VA claims recovery project.
TrailBlazer’s headquarters is in Dallas, Texas (8330 LBJ Freeway, Executive Center III, on the southeast corner of Interstate 635/LBJ Freeway and U.S. Highway 75/Central Expressway). Its major operational facility is in Denison, Texas, and its field audit office is in San Antonio, Texas.
The TrailBlazer workforce includes claims processing and customer service staff; medical review nurses and other medical professionals; and specialists in audit, reimbursement, information technology, training, communications and administrative support. TrailBlazer employees utilize information technology ranging from large-scale mainframe and client/server-based systems to desktop and Web-based applications in processing more than 100 million Medicare claims per year. Large-scale customer service call center and correspondence operations based in Texas handle more than 4 million inquiries from Medicare beneficiaries and medical service providers each year.
